Flat Ribbon Cable Specifications

Flat ribbon cables are usually represented by two numbers: the spacing or spacing of flat ribbon cable conductors, and the number of conductors or ways. A pitch of 0.050 inches is the most common pitch, but there are also finer and courser pitch cables, from 0.025 inches to 0.156 inches, and the pitch is customized according to the specific application. In some portable electronic devices, you can find cables with pitches as low as 0.3 mm.

Due to the available standard connectors, the number of conductors or ways is usually limited to a few values. These include 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16, 18, 20, 24, 25, 26, 34, 37, 40, 50, 60, 64 and 80. The wire used in ribbon cables is usually stranded copper wire in sizes, including 18 awg ribbon cable, 20 awg ribbon cable, 22 awg ribbon cable, 24 awg ribbon cable, 26 awg ribbon cable, 28 awg ribbon cable, 30 awg ribbon cable, 32 awg ribbon cable, 34 awg ribbon cable.
